Wellness Hacks for Lazy People

I consider myself a healthy person but I’m definitely lazy. Sure I work out and take the time to read labels when grocery shopping, but when it comes to wellness practices, I’m always looking for an easy way out. If watching YouTubers blend and juice their beautifully fresh morning smoothies and pour them in to mason jars gets you overwhelmed too (ain’t nobody got time for that), this post is for you. Here are a few simple wellness hacks for lazy healthy people.

Easiest Way to Stay pH Balanced

Drinking lemon water throughout the day is one of the easiest things you can do to alkalize, or neutralize acid in the body. Though lemons are not alkaline themselves, they posses a low sugar content and high alkaline mineral content, giving an alkalizing effect on the body. Lemon’s citric acid enhances your body’s ability to naturally flush out toxins from your bodyDrinking lemon water has also been proven to aid in digestion.

I showed you this on Instagram but here it is again.  Cut half a lemon and juice it in to a large glass or water bottle (at least 8 oz.). After squeezing, dump the rest of the lemon in to the glass. Refill your glass with luke-warm or room temperature water for easy all-day lemon water.

Easiest Way to Detox/Retox and Fiber

I’m not a big fan of juicing or juice diets mainly because eating a fruit whole gives you higher nutrient density. If you are looking to ‘clean out’ your body but don’t want to spend $10 on a ‘fresh’ juice or go through the project of juicing there is a super simple solution. Eat a whole fruit. The fiber contained in a whole fruit or vegetable is not available in juice. Fiber lives in the ruffage- pulp and skin which is extracted when juicing . Buy celery, wash celery (or don’t), chew celery.

Bonus dip options: peanut butter, hummus, guacamole…

Easiest Way to Start Your Morning Healthy

There are hundreds of arguments on wether or not breakfast is important for a healthy weight/metabolsim and what the best time to eat should be after waking up. Some argue within 30mins to 1 hour while others argue that you can skip it all together. All I know is that not eating within 45 minutes of waking for ME leads to poor food choices, a highly irritable mood and extremely low energy.  However, I often like staying in bed (especially on the weekend) on my computer in my warm blanket. My solution is to keep a banana or orange by your bedside. On the days you don’t want/have to spring out of bed, you can still eat within 45 minutes of waking.

Caution: don’t keep snacky things like nuts or crackers by your bedside, this will most probably lead to nighttime snacking.

Easiest Way to Refresh

Doing something good for your body usually involves action- working out, Yoga, deep breathing. I’m not flexible (post coming on that soon) so Yoga isn't my idea of a refresh.  However Viparita Karani (legs-up-on-the-wall) is the easiest and most refreshing Yoga un-pose. It's beauty lies in its inaction. Legs-on-the-wall pose is known to aid in lymphatic drainage, reduce anxiety, ease menstrual cramps, regulate blood pressure, relieve tired legs and stretch your hamstrings. Thats a lot of benefit from not doing anything!

Easiest Way to Have a Clean Home

Remove your shoes when you enter your house. You’ve already made your space that much cleaner. Your shoes pick up nasty bacteria such as E.coli and meningitis. In fact a study at the University of Arizona that collected germs from footwear picked up “Some of the bacteria found on the shoes included: Escherichia coli, known to cause intestinal and urinary tract infections, meningitis and diarrheal disease; Klebsiella pneumonia, a common source for wound and bloodstream infections as well as pneumonia; and Serratia ficaria, a rare cause of infections in the respiratory tract and wounds.” Another convincing point, about 96 percent of the E.Coli bacteria was from contact with fecal matter.

Easiest Way to Improve Sexual Health

Don’t wear underwear to bed. I do this and my sisters think its gross and now you know I do this too. My reason is I just don’t want to wear anything constricting after sweating in spandex all day. Turns out, there is even more benefit than I thought.  Not wearing under-garmets reduces bacteria growth that could cause bladder and other infections like UTIs.  If you are always covered down there, there will be an increase in moisture, the perfect environment for yeast growth.

Easiest Way to Reduce Carbohydrate Intake

Eat your sandwiches open-face or bun-less. Let’s get one thing straight, I’m anti-diets but sometimes I need to cut back on carbs. 1 slice of wheat bread has around 78 calories and 14.3 grams of carbohydratesInstead of altering an entire diet, making small and easy adjustments prevents calories from piling up.

Nobody Else Knows What They Are Doing: Uncertainty

neha-uberoi-wellness

I'm in this awkward phase in my life/career where I will never go back to doing what I used to but I'm not exactly sure what is next. Most days I'm super confident and pumped about 'exploring' and taking each day as it comes and all that flowery stuff. But sometimes I completely deteriorate in to a ball of doubt and massive anxiety. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way. I just want to remind myself and you that NO ONE else actually has it all figured out. Sure a lot of people have really well crafted Instagram accounts to make it seem that way.  And some people may have better bullshit to tell themselves and perhaps believe in it more than you do yours, but everyone feels this self-doubt. As much as it appears the opposite, no body else has any more certainty about themselves or what they are doing than you do

I'm also guilty of indulging in this fantasy of waiting for the time when everything will be perfect and my career/life will unfold the way it was supposed to. That something external other than my own hard work and diligence will manifest and empower me with an answer/path/solution. Like a man or woman believing that in this day and age their dream life partner will just appear in their world while they sit passively without going through the ego-bruising experiences of online dating or the effort to meet new people.

The only solution that makes logical sense is to completely surrender to the idea of permanent uncertainty. If anyone should be comfortable with this concept its me, the tennis player. Uncertainty and uncontrollable variables are an inherent part of the beautiful game. The ones who come out on top are those who accept that they don't know what they are doing and do it anyway.
