As a Princeton University student, I had a great privilege to listen to and meet with some of the world’s most amazing people. Today, I had the opportunity to meet someone who not only is revolutionizing the world but also someone who uses Hinduism and Indian identity as inspiration.
Ajay Chaturvedi is the founder of HarVa, a for profit rural enterprise. Chaturvedi who has been named CNN Leader of the Year (2011) is a Wharton MBA grad and Bits Pilani alum. However, his prestigious schooling and time in corporate finance has helped inspire him to create HarVa. His enterprise works with rural farming communities to educate and create jobs. HarVa has tapped in to the power of rural women, teaching them computer skills and employing them to do numerous IT service jobs. HarVa has harnessed the power of rural populations. It Aeven creates its own energy supply in rural villages to power computers using bio gas. He stresses that this is an enterprise, not an NGO. He isn’t looking for your money, he is looking for your business and involvement.
Chaturvedi’s passion and energy to lead such an organization has come from Vedic scriptures, meditation. Learning to detach himself from our materialistic, capitalistic world and searching for inner fulfillment helped him create this idea and has allowed rural women to make 200-300 US dollars a month.
I urge you to visit his website to learn about HarVa’s concept and how you can get involved.
